O Percy, how I love thee

who sits in darkness and
sings to cheer its own
solitude with sweet sounds."

Today is my birthday...

...but that is not the most important thing.. What's important is that I share my birthday with Percy Bysshe Shelley, the great Romantic poet! (Yes, he was married to Mary Shelley.) He was the subject of an essay I wrote in my college Romantic Poets class, which I believe was titled "Percy Bysshe Shelley - the Dark Romantic." I wish I had that essay with me.

If you have some time, I urge you to read "To a Skylark." This is my favorite stanza:

We look before and after,
And pine for what is not:
Our sincerest laughter
With some pain is fraught;
Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought.

*le sigh*

Happy birthday Percy!!!

And me too :)
